How to adjust the water hardness on your Jura A1?

If you do not use filters, you need to measure the hardness of your water to adjust your machine. The harder the water, the more frequently the Jura needs to be descaled. That's why it's important to correctly set the water hardness.

What do you need for this procedure?

• Tap water that you will use to fill the water reservoir of your machine.
• Visual representation of the symbols (to better understand the instructions) as shown below:
  
  
  
  
• The Aquadur test strip provided with your machine

How to determine the water hardness?

Follow these steps to determine the water hardness:

1. Briefly hold the test strip (Aquadur) under the tap water for 1 second.
2. Shake off any excess water.
3. Wait for approximately 1 minute.
4. Read the water hardness level by comparing the color on the Aquadur test strip to the description on the packaging.

How to input the information into your machine? (During initial setup)

1. Press the "Descaling" symbol. Three symbols will light up.
2. Based on this legend, configure your machine: 
   
   
   
   
3. For example, for level 1, select the Ristretto symbol.
4. Continue the initial setup procedure on page 38 of the manual.

How to input the information into your machine?

If the machine has already been set up but you need to adjust the water hardness, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold the "Normal intensity" (1 grain) and "Strong intensity" (2 grains) symbols simultaneously for about 2 seconds.
2. Five symbols will light up strongly.
3. Briefly press the "Descaling" symbol. Symbols will light up.
4. Select your water hardness by touching the corresponding intensity symbol.
5. Then press the "Descaling" symbol.
